Naughty @ 40 – The Name Says it All

Govinda may be 40 (47 to be precise) but to call him a ‘hottie’ and ‘sexy’ as the background track of the trailer insists, even if he is walking in slow motion, is wholly inaccurate. The man who gave us genuinely funny Bollywood films such as Coolie No 1, Hero No 1, Deewana Mastana, Aunty No 1, Haseena Man Jayeti, Bade Miyan Chhote Miya and many others in the past, has of late taken to giving us movies that trot out the same thakela gags with the same double entendre and crass humour (if it can even loosely be termed as such).

Naughty @ 40 (the working title of the movie earlier was Excuse me Please!) seems of a piece with recent Bollywood movies such as Do Knot disturb, and others of the same ilk. And just so we know that this is an ‘adult comedy’ the film has been given an A certificate.

The story is about a 40 year old virgin who lives in London, who is by now rather desperate to get some action. So he confesses as much to his mortified father, a rich industrialist played by Anupam Kher. Various attempts at getting some ‘action’ such as going to a massage parlour to be tutored by a sex guru and so on feature in the film.

As a last ditch attempt he marries a young woman (played by Yuvika Chaudhry) who, much to his dismay is as ignorant and clueless about sex. So we have a 40 year old man who doesn’t know who to initiate things with his lovely young bride, who is herself none the wiser. Shakti Kapoor is friend and advisor to the frustrated 40 year old.

Based on this rather thin plot is an entire feature film that has a superfluous pole dancing sequence, some mandatory misunderstandings and obligatory bed hoppings that alas pass for many Hindi comedy films these days – you get the idea.

Be warned – if you seek mature or intelligent humour, don’t go near this film. If it is the brainless, nudge-nudge variety of fluff that you want so that you can zone out, then go watch Govinda do the sort of thing he has been doing for a long time now.
